Subject:Sad sick people like me
Time:12:19 pm.
So we are back from Greece. We got back yesterday and nearly went out but the general travel weariness got the better of us and instead we stayed in and watched bits of my new Tegan & Sara dvd which is highly recommended - Tegan is a comedy genius. This morning I made us a greek style breakfast to try and keep the holiday going for one more day and the sun pouring through the windows is helping with that. I have managed today to stave off the meteor of stress which decended upon me as soon as I got home as a result of having a very big job interview next week and general stress over finding myself a job now my course is over. Feeling better today though, got a few more to apply for and am going to sort my CV out tomorow and send it to a library employment agency to hopefully get some temp work while waiting to hear about the proper jobs I have applied for.

Our holiday was not one of the best trips we've had to the Greek Islands, A combination of overestimating our capacity / time for lengthy travel, returning to our favourite (small) Greek island too soon and some bad luck with our hotel in the second island we visited meant that there was a vague sense of dissappointment about the trip in general. That said there were some great things - fantastic swim at the beach at Milos where the water was literally turqouise (felt like the Caribbean) and stayed at shoulder level really far out with no rocks underfoot, also some good swimming pools particularly the peed hotel in Milos which was the only pool we visited which was much bigger than a paddling pool. Folegandros was as we remembered - stunning, great hotel, good food, pretty town, superb views and scrabble plus i-pod shuffle on our balcony there was a highlight although we missed the excitement of discovering somewhere for the first time. I found Athens, contrary to the general consensus, utterly charming. This was mainly because of a great boutique hotel and sticking to the only nice bit of town Plaka the area around the Acropolis. Was great just wondering round the old streets and having a city break tagged on the end of a beachy holiday was a success.

Today I am accompanying the lady to buy a week's worth of work-suitable clothing (American Apparel, Birkenstock and M&S) and hopefully getting myself a suit to wear for my interview next week, The job is at UCL on a nine month contract - half of it is just working on a cataloguing project which I think would be fine and well within my capabilities but the first few months is covering for a member of staff on secondment meaning I would be line-managing about 5 people, overseeing the periodicals budget of 2 million and other scary overly responsible things. Also the minimum salary for the job is 11 grand more than I was on at my last job and all these things added together are resulting in me feeling uber intimidated and like I don't have a hope in hell of getting the job. It would be fantastic if i did because everything I am interested in requires either a lot of cataloguing and/or management experience and this would give me both. Also another year of being able to walk to work, have lunch at home and easily fit in visits to the Oasis would be perfect. However, I think it is very unlikely even with the week-long preperations I will be starting on tomorrow.

Tonight we are off to see Cansei der ser sexy and the 1990s at Dingwalls. Really looking forward to seeing both bands but especially CSS as their album is my current once a day minimum and I am slightly in love with the lead singer who is called Lovefoxx.

Over and out.

following my exam this morning (terror/relief) i was walking home bag of monster munch in hand looking bleary eyed and dressed in generic indie lez clothing when an attractive asian man in his mid thirties dressed in a business suit stopped me. 'excuse me, i hope you don't think i'm rude..', he said. here we go with the market research i thought and prepared my stock response. and then he said: 'would you like to go for a drink with me sometime'!!!!!

what the fuck?! i never get approached by men in your usual pulling grounds of bars let alone the street! i was so taken aback i just said NO, and then smiled and said sorry and walked off. i wish i had found out why he asked me. i wonder if he is a chubby chaser.

there seems to be a bit of confusion going around about the date of the next bop which is understandable seeing as we have moved it this month (so we can go to ATP). so, just to clarify:

there will be NO BOP on 20th May

instead there will be Bop Action on FRIDAY 26TH MAY

hope anyone who was planning to come in may can still make it on the following friday.

yesterday i was very very tired following a combination of mammoth amounts of school work, lack of weekends off and insomnia. sorry if i saw you and was flaky or wierd, having finished my web publishing project i should now be doing revision for my exam on the monday after atp. the teachers have told us that we essentially can't revise for it as it is for an untaught module about professional awareness. don't worry they tell us, you don't need to revise you will just rely on your background reading. shame i didn't actually do any background reading. oh well, hey-ho.

am really sad about missing the elephant at the weekend. we planned to go on sunday but having been in the library all day both saturday and sunday i stumbled out and could only remain focused on needs of the gastronomic kind. even had to miss shipwrecked on sunday but luckily we taped it. come on the tigers.

have been listening exclusively to music of the country/folk variety over the past few days, gillian, jenny, and now bert. it's all good. also loving futureheads and graham coxon single, indie is back. am expecting the new jenny lewis single in the post soon with a brand new b-side which will compensate for being woken up early.

looking forward to going out dancin' TWICE at the weekend, to Yo! Suzi and Hula Go-Go on sat. maybe you should come too!

after a lovely weekend off i am back in the mire of schoolwork. am approximately two days behind on my neatly printed easter holidays work schedule which is blue tacked to the back of the door, and have been getting very very stressed about the amount if work i have to do in a very short time, but today i am nearly finished with the mammoth information sources project and feeling like i am less in trouble than i had worried. think having some time off actually helped.

the bop was fabulous, after a bit of a wierd one in march where i had been overly social in the preceding days, this one was very laid back and i was kind of looking at it as a good night out rather than work which always makes it go better. it was medium busy but felt busy busy as it was a proper bop type crowd who danced to everything and made decent requests, and deejaying went well, highlights being stacey stasis, standing in the way of control, tutti frutti and the pipettes for alex (having slagged them off for two years for being a pastiche band etc. i am finding myself increasingly enamoured with them). was really nice to have all of the 123's back at the bop and i had a good chat with charlotte. was also great to have [info]dansette back. only down side really was the fact that there weren't enough girls there, think we need to work on attracting more ladies.

after excitedly inviting people round for an easter sunday roast i completely flopped out after shipwrecked and had to cancel - felt really bad but knew i couldn't manage two hours in the kitchen plus entertaining. it was probably for the best, as i had a proper relax of a day yesterday enabling me to get up super early and get to work although my resolve is waning now hence lj procrastination.

tonight we are deejaying at a charity do for the albert kennedy trust in limehouse. i have no idea what it is going to be like, have never been to the venue (or limehouse for that matter) and not sure what to expect from the crowd. we are only doing a 45 minute set, so may have to plan it out in advance a bit to make sure it is all killer. i really want to wear tamsin's brand new cherry red dm shoes, i wonder if offering to break them in on her behalf will convince her...

hi folks, back from portugal with a bit of a tan and a lot of stress about the mountain of coursework deadlines fast approaching. am going to see a film then retro bar today and then after that all time until bop on saturday will be spent surgically attached to the computer writing about project management skills in the library sector and evaluating information sources for women's studies. in the meantime have done this favourite albums thing, unfortunately they didn't have zombina and the only dolly they had was recent or a best of so i had to settle. also i am very fickle and keep changing my mind. bet this is really similar to tam's one and if so is it that we are mfeo or that i am very easily influenced? both i reckon.

have i mentioned i am having actually the most exciting week of all time? long blondes last saturday, swallow tattoo on monday, ladies and gentlemen the fabulous stains on tuesday, j-loo + watsons on weds, goxxip on thurs, drinks at our local with our new archivist friend tonight, gossip tomorrow. then it's reading week and tam and i are going on our holldiays, on the train to brussels. singularly, any of these events would have made my week. combined i don't know wether to feel on top of the world or depressed about the fact that the rest of the year can't hope to reach these dizzying heights again. here is my new gossip tee so:

i've been tattooed! it is a beautiful line drawing of a swallow (thanks so so so much to [info]woolly for the design) and i love it. only problem is now i have determined that tamsin can cope with the pain she is really jealous and wishes she had got there first!

i was expecting it to be incredible painful but it honestly wasn't that bad, and i even got the whole endorphine rush thing which i always suspected must be a myth because people say you get it from heavy exercise!

anyways, pics to follow once the clingfilm comes off. what an exciting week.

Breakaway - Kelly Clarkson (more avril!)

Power to the people and the beats - Public Enemy
Give up - The Postal Service (finally)
Power out - Electralane (finally)

hello all,

just a quick begging letter re: Unskinny Bop this saturday. basically we again find ourselves without our door girl and i was wondering if anyone would be willing to brave the cold and staff the door for us in exchange for money, drinks and unskinny love (not in a rude way though). the door is staffed between 9.30 and 12 so if anyone feels like doing say just an hour of it we can hopefully sort out a rota (i can do between 10.30 and 11.30). anyways just thought i'd ask, like.
